The Department Welcomes Dr. Solmaz Kia to its Faculty

Among her many projects, Dr. Kia will use Turtlebot robots to validate cooperative algorithms developed in her research group

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Solmaz Kia as an Assistant Professor in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.  Dr. Kia received the B.S. and M.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering from Sharif University in Iran, graduating with honors first in her class; and the Ph.D. degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of California, Irvine. Before coming to the US for her graduate studies, she worked as a design engineer at Shahin Aviation, Co., an Iranian aerospace company. After her graduation from UCI, she worked as a senior research engineer at SySense, Inc., a research aerospace company based in El Segundo.   This was followed by her appointment as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, San Diego after being awarded a highly competitive and prestigious UC President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship.

Dr. Kia's research interests include networked control systems, decentralized/distributed algorithm design for multi-agent systems, nonlinear control theory and robotics.   In academic year 2014-15, she it teaching MAE270 (Linear Systems, F14) and MAE80 (Dynamics, W15).  Visit her website to learn more.
