Welcome to the AIAA Student Chapter at UC Irvine

Mission:

The mission of the AIAA Student Chapter at UC Irvine is to promote activities and participation in aeronautics and astronautics amongst undergraduate engineering students, and to help the students pursue opportunities for successful careers with leadership positions in aerospace engineering in academia, industry, or government.

AIAA:

The AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics), and its predecessors, has been the principal society of the aerospace engineer and scientist for more than 70 years. The AIAA home web site is at http://www.aiaa.org and the AIAA Orange County Section web site is at http://www.aiaa.org/sections/or

Design, Build, & Fly Competition Results for 2006:

The UCI AIAA Design, Build, & Fly (DBF) team mentored by Prof. Liebeck has placed 7th out of 49 entries in the competition held in Wichita, KA, on April 21-23, 2006.  Pictures of the UCI aircraft at the DBF competition are available here: http://mae.eng.uci.edu/aiaa/DBF2006/pictures.html

Additional information on the DBF competition results is available here: http://mae.eng.uci.edu/aiaa/DBF2006.pdf

Activities, Related Events, and Schedules:

2006 October 30, 7pm - 9pm (McDonnell-Douglas Engineering Auditorium): Loctite Adhesives Technology Workshop. This Workshop will be presented by industrial experts from the Henkel Loctite Corporation (Mr. Richard Nighswonger) which is a local company located in Seal Beach.

2006 August 29: AIAA Intelligent Systems Student Paper Competition.

Please see the Call for Papers (CFP) brochure for the AIAA Infotech@Aerospace 2007 Conference and Exhibit, to be held 7–10 May 2007 at the Doubletree Hotel Sonoma Wine Country in Rohnert Park, California.

The AIAA Infotech@Aerospace 2007 Conference and Exhibit will feature presentations from experts in unmanned vehicles, intelligent systems, payloads, system-level development, and operational integration of all types, especially the unmanned air vehicle (UAV) constituency. It will also showcase the latest developments in information technology (IT) for aerospace systems.

The Intelligent Systems Student Paper Competition will be held in conjunction with the Infotech@Aerospace technical program. Papers are sought from graduate and undergraduate students on a host of intelligent systems topics. Finalists will present their papers at a special student paper session, and the best paper author will receive a $1,000 prize and recognition at the conference. All awards are courtesy of BAE Systems. Details can be found in the CFP.

All interested students are encouraged to submit a technical paper or attend this event. Please note that the abstract deadline is 14 October 2006. The CFP and all conference information can be found at http://www.aiaa.org/events/infotech@aerospace.

2006 May 20: 9am - 1pm, JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena) Open House.

2006 May 6: 9am - 1pm, Space Day at Aerospace Museum in San Diego.
