REQUIREMENTS AND GUIDANCE FOR GRADUATE COURSES

1)      Select your major and minor area of study

The department has established fundamental course areas and students should choose one of them for a major and one of them as minor areas.

The four fundamental areas are:

            • Fluid Dynamics

            • Solid/Structural/Material Mechanics

            • Dynamics & Control

            • Transport & Thermal Sciences

2)       Select courses associated with your major and minor area of study.

A list of approved courses for each of the fundamental areas is presented in the Master of Study Form.  At least three courses should be taken for a major area and at least one course per minor area.

3)      Select your courses associated with Applied Math and “Synthesis and Integration”

Furthermore, all students should take at least one math course and one “Synthesis and Integration” course in addition to the courses in the major and minor areas.  A list of approved courses to satisfy the applied math and “Synthesis and Integration” requirements is presented in the Master of Study Form.

4)      Select elective courses

Finally, students should select approved elective courses in order to complete the number of units required.

Students should seek the advice of their Academic Advisor (if they have one) and the MAE Graduate Studies Advisor before finalizing their selection.   The M.S. Program of Study form needs the approval of the Graduate Studies Advisor.

It is due November 30, 2007.
