Master's Degree
The limit on transfer credit completed at all non-UC campuses is eight units: one or two relevant courses--graduate-level only--completed with a final grade of B or better.
Up to one-half the minimum number of units required for the MS degree (18 of 36) may be transferred in from another UC campus, provided those units were completed while the student was enrolled in a graduate- degree program. (In other words, 18 units of course- work completed through a non-degree University Extension program would not transfer.)
Students may also petition to "test out" of additional courses through the campus Credit by Examination program, based on relevant course work completed prior to coming to UCI.

Ph.D Degree
Courses taken toward a graduate degree at another institution cannot be transferred for credit toward a Ph.D. at UCI. However, a course requirement may be waived if a similar course was taken at another institution. The General Petition for Graduate Students (http://www.rgs.uci.edu/grad/students/forms.htm) should be used for all requests for waivers of course work. To obtain a waiver, the academic unit should submit a full description of the course including a syllabus and a copy of the student's transcripts along with the Petition to OGS for review and approval.
