THE SOLIDIFICATION OF METALLIC FOAMS
Prof. Stephen Davis
McCormick School (Institute) Professor
Walter P. Murphy Professor of Applied Mathematics
Abstract:
The production of porous metals by the freezing of liquid foams promises to deliver a continuous process of engineered porosity. The lecture with focus on the dynamics of liquid foams, the thinning of thin films and the rupture instability of the films by Van der Walls forces and the subsequent solidification of the material.
