Title: Returning to the Moon: The Fluid Mechanism

Speaker: Prof. Peter Staudhammer

Director, Alfred E. Mann Institute for Bioengineering

University of Southern California

Abstract:

As the US is preparing to return to the moon and establish a lunar base, many of the technologies dormant since the Apollo program will need to be revived. One of the most critical of these is variable thrust propulsion. The seminar will examine the fundamental problems underlying variable thrust propulsion and their resolution for the Apollo mission. Our speaker, Dr. Peter Staudhammer, was the Chief Engineer for the development of the Apollo Lunar Descent Engine.
