| This thrust area deals with the engineering and science aspects of
the miniaturization of mechanical, chemical and biological systems. Miniaturization
engineering involves a good understanding of scaling laws, different manufacturing
methods, materials options and modelling from the atom to the macro system. Both top-down
and bottom-up manufacturing and their synergies are studied. The focus is on the
integration of multi-disciplinary technologies in the design of complex miniaturized
systems. Ph.D. dissertations, M.S. theses, and courses relate to the advancement of
miniaturization science for various biotechnology, automotive, robotic and alternative
energy applications. |
