| This area deals with understanding, modeling, and
controlling the atmospheric impacts of energy-generation systems, propulsion systems, and airborne vehicles. Impacts
of chemical pollution, particle dispersion, and noise emission are addressed. Atmospheric
chemistry is studied with advanced mathematical models and massively parallel
computations. Research on atmospheric turbulence includes studies of the energy exchanges between
the earth's land and ocean surfaces and the overlying atmosphere. Suppression of jet noise
uses methods that incorporate recent knowledge of the physics of compressible turbulence. |
